Montesilvano
Montesilvano, located on the Abruzzo coast, is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the mid-Adriatic coast.
The wide coastline of golden fine sand, the shallow sea up to many meters from the shore and the beaches full of facilities, alternating with large sections of free beach, make our town the perfect place for a seaside holiday, where to fully experience the sea.
In the summer months, the waterfront becomes a large pedestrian area, where shows, concerts and markets take place, with a lively nightlife that animates the numerous clubs and restaurants.
Those looking for quieter and more romantic atmospheres can head to the ancient village of Montesilvano Colle, the historic center of the city, a pre-Roman town fortified by the Normans during the Middle Ages, which stands on a hill formerly surrounded by woods: hence the name Montesilvano, that means Mount of woods, now given by extension to the whole modern urban center.
Montesilvano Colle stands on a hill about 150 meters high, inserted in a system of similar elevations that slope very quickly towards the sea and are still covered by what remains of the ancient, thick, wood.
From the belvedere that runs all around it, tracing the ancient walls of which a good part, that includes a postern and quadrangular towers, is still intact, you can admire the most beautiful views of Abruzzo, with the gaze that runs from Maiella to Gran Sasso, the largest mountain massifs of the Apennines, crosses the hilly belt and ends in the blue and boundless horizon of the Adriatic sea.
Between seventeenth-century glimpses and residences of the eighteenth-century rural aristocracy, Montesilvano Colle welcomes both high-level gourmet restaurants, excellent pizzerias and typical restaurants.
Equipped with remarkable hotel accommodations located directly on the beach or just beyond the pine forest that runs along the seafront, but also with B&Bs and apartments to rent for the holidays, Montesilvano also has a conference, fairs and exhibitions center called “Pala Dean Martin” in honor of the great star, whose real name was Dino Crocetti, born in the United States of a Montesilvanese father.
A summer holiday in Montesilvano allows not only to fully experience the sea and the worldliness that are usually related to concerts, parties and cultural events, but it unfolds through many other activities: cultural visits to the Romanesque churches of Madonna del Carmine and the Madonna della Neve, which preserve precious works of art and a great intangible heritage of stories and legends; simple but extremely scenic trekking on the wooded hills high above the sea; a canoe excursion to the mouth of the Saline river, rich in both botanical and ornithological biodiversity; or a tour by bike or electric scooter to discover the murals of the most famous Italian and European street artists, which color the modern city.
In short, the summer of Montesilvano is one of the most lively, colorful, beautiful and elegant on the Adriatic coast.
Città di Sant'Angelo
In January 2018, the US economy and finance magazine Forbes ranked Città Sant’Angelo among the 10 best places in the world where to live with little money, placing our village among the much more famous places such as Lisbon, Cali (in Colombia), Bali, Belize (on the Caribbean Sea), and Languedoc (in France). Città Sant’Angelo and Abruzzo have been defined as “a slice of heaven — and it’s Italy’s best-kept secret”. The Municipality of Città Sant’Angelo obtained in 1999 has been nominated city of art, and in 2009, first of all the Municipalities of the province of Pescara and the only one in the Montana Vestina area, being recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, National Product Club aimed at the protection and enhancement of the great heritage of history, art, culture, environment, and traditions present in small Italian villages. It is also a city of wine and oil, a slow city, a green city. Just five minutes from the Pescara Nord motorway exit and about half an hour from Pescara airport, you will discover the beautiful Città Sant’Angelo. The historic center is a suggestive interlude of time, where you can immerse yourself in an atmosphere full of many great inspirations.
This ancient village welcomes the visitor in a unique dimension: from the numerous cultural and food and wine events that take place throughout the year, to the discovery of architectural heritage, up to the romantic panoramic walk where the Adriatic Sea to the east and the highest mountains of the Apennines – Majella to the south and the Gran Sasso d’Italia to the west – overlook the landscape. Located at 325 meters on the l. m. Città Sant’Angelo amazes with its liveliness, its heartfelt traditions, typical products, the enchanting landscape and a truly enviable position. Just 18 kilometers from the city of Pescara, 30 minutes from the mountains and with the sea that laps its territory, this hilltop village is the perfect place for a relaxing but exciting stay. As a tourist resort, Città Sant’Angelo Marina deserves a mention, which from a small village of fishing peasants has transformed into an orderly residential area, with commercial activities such as the Iper, accommodation facilities and spaces for leisure time. The first Outlet Store Village in Abruzzo was also recently inaugurated. But there is also the highly appreciated Villa Serena hospital. In addition, in the historic center, there is the “San Giovanni Battista” community hospital for health care.
